Do you know about the new laws in Idaho that have to do with schools? Idaho State Senator Tammy Nichols recently wrote a very informative blog post about these new laws and I wanted to make sure that you are up to speed! I made a short video talking about this that you can find below.
Also, a reminder of when to stop behind a school bus… and this could save you some money!
Back to School... What's New?
Senator Nichols’ blog post (click the image below) provides info on the new Idaho laws affecting students, parents and schools. These include:
- A Daily Moment of Silence: Each school day begins with a 1 minute moment of silence.
- More Focus on American History and Government: More instruction will be given on America’s founding, our form of government and rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
- Stronger Protections for Students: Schools cannot sweep suspected sexual abuse under the rug but rather must report such conduct to law enforcement.
- Parents Have a Right to Know: Parents much be notified within 3 days of their child’s social gender transition.
The Senator also considers the idea that school seems to start earlier in the year that it used to.

Senator Nichols’ blog ended with a poll asking people when the new school year should begin.
How would you have voted on this?
Reminder: School Bus Safety
The ACHD (Ada County Highway District) offers some great and timely information regarding safety around buses, bus stops and schools. Visit their website for more details on these important matters.
Specifically, what are you supposed to do in Idaho when a school bus is stopped with it’s red lights flashing and the stop sign is extended out?
Roads with 3 or fewer lanes: Vehicles going in either direct must stop.
Roads with 4 or more lanes: Vehicles going the same direction as the bus must top; vehicles going the opposite direction are to continue travelling but should proceed with caution.
IF you FAIL to stop when required, there are penalties and fines provided to help you remember for next time.
On the ACHD website is a helpful video about when to stop for school bus safety.
A Deeper Discussion on These New Laws

Treasure Valley Dave's Thoughts
“Education” of our youth certainly varies around the country… some places have a different focus to educate (indoctrinate?) the students into the latest Marxist ideology while other, more conservative, places have more of an intention to instill a well-rounded education to include an appreciation for being an engaged and productive citizen into adulthood. These new Idaho laws are steps in the right direction for Idaho students.
The reminder about school bus safety on the roads is an important refresher… keep this in mind as you are out driving around.
